About the Firs

Located in a quiet valley high in the Black Mountains, The Firs makes an ideal base for exploring the Herefordshire/Welsh borders.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the area provides some great walking straight from the door including the Offa's Dyke footpath which runs along the ridge above the cottage. For nature lovers, the Olchon Valley, as featured in the film 'Resistance' based on the book by Owen Sheers, is an area of special scientific interest, with a profusion of birds, plants and animals, some rare, and with no light pollution is a great place for star gazing, which is why the Brecon Beacons National Park was granted International Dark Sky status in 2013.

If your idea of a holiday is more relaxed then there is plenty to see in the area, including Hay on Wye, with its second hand book and antique shops, Abergavenny and the spectacular ruins of Llanthony Abbey, five miles to the south.

The Firs is a warm, comfortable, well equipped 17th century listed cottage set by itself in 20 acres of farmland, with a lovely garden and superb views. The nearest neighbour is about a mile away, making it a great place to relax away from it all, or throw a party without worrying about disturbing anyone! However you choose to spend your time, everything is on hand for the perfect holiday. Suited to couples, families or groups, the cottage is fully equipped for seven people and pets are welcome.
